Hi there! 👋

My name is Eli, and I’m thrilled to have you here! I am a neuroscientist and artist, and I look to bring those “-ists” together to talk about science in an approachable and engaging way. This site exists to make some of my projects merging science and art accessible for everyone.

For the curious.

  • I am a neuroscience Ph.D. candidate at Emory University, where I study the really cool part of your eye that is an extension of your brain - the retina. Specifically, I study how the retina is changed early on in the pathology of diabetic retinopathy, and how we might be able to use biomarkers and protective treatments to prevent vision loss for those with Type 1 diabetes.

  • The type of artist I am changes by the day! But more frequently than not, I’m utilizing digital means to create interactive scenarios. This varies by the project and ranges from simple digital illustration to audio design to program development. When applicable, I also enjoy merging digital with traditional mediums to create engaging opportunities of multi-media interactivity.

  • I’m all about community and promoting the accessibility of science to the public at large. I love all chances to work with everyone - from elementary school students to fellow scientists and beyond. I firmly believe that excitement for science is for everyone.

  • For the time being, I’m best reached at my email - eli.chlan@emory.edu.
